Extensive usage of XML Standard

The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is a set of rules (specifications) for structuring ASCII documents. XML uses tags in order to describe its content.

The benefits of using XML are derived from the characteristics of the XML as a standard.

  • XML stands for EXtensible Markup Language
  • XML is a markup language much like HTML
  • XML was designed to describe data
  • XML tags are not predefined. You define your own tags
  • XML uses a Document Type Definition (DTD) or an XML Schema to describe the data format
  • XML with a DTD or XML Schema is designed to be self-descriptive

i-docs™ is fully a web application. Therefore the following components are needed:

  • Web Server in order to access the XML Database (Please note that a built-in version of the Apache web server is included)
  • Application Server in order to distribute the application to the users. (Please note that a built-in version of Tomcat Application Server is included)
  • Java Run-Time Environment in order to deliver the java framework.

Modules

The i-docs™ product architecture consists of core and optional modules to provide extensibility and customization. i-docs core is the infrastructure and framework of the application, which is used by all the other modules and provides the following functionality:

  • Receive, process, distribute and monitor tasks
  • Define authorization and authentication schemes
  • Provide the framework for global configuration and serialization of events

i-docs™ core, combined with either the main modules of i-docs™ or custom modules developed by the customer, provides the required functionality to implement a complete solution.
