E-statements are digital copies of the original statements (banking statements, credit cards statements, telecom invoices and bills, dunning letters, etc.) that can legally replace the paper-printed statements utilizing alternative communication channels. In order to ensure this, the e-statement composition process should be part of end-to-end document generation process and 5 key factors should be addressed: (a) documents are automatically separated and delivered as electronic statements only to the customers that are subscribed to the service (depending on local regulations), (b) the digital statement is an exact copy of the paper one, (c) it reaches the end-customer following a “push” process, (d) it is permanently archived allowing for on the fly retrieval and (e) based on the requirement it can be digitally signed (electronic signature) using a qualified certificate.
